Thankful

Photo via my Pinterest

This Thanksgiving I am truly overcome with gratitude for all of the many blessings in my life.

I have so much to be thankful for, but more than anything I am thankful for the now. I sometimes focus too much on the future instead of what is happening in this moment.

I wish for you (and for all of us) the peace that comes from being thankful.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Benji Wednesday

It's been so cold here in Fort Worth lately that Benji has been getting a lot of wear out of his favorite sweater. He's a lover of clothing, especially this sweater.

Monogram of the Moment

I loved monogramming these Christmas stockings for my friend Meredith. Isn't the sparkly thread amazing?

Weekend Snaps

My sweet friend Jennifer got engaged recently so this weekend we celebrated by going out with her and her fiancé! I bought them this cute bottle of Sofia Coppola's sparkling wine at Target. I love the pink wrapping! So precious. I hope it's delicious.

We went to a birthday dinner on Saturday night and it was cold enough to wear a furry vest!

I took a proper needlepointing class and here is my first assignment:

We also did some work on the nursery, which is starting to look more together. I'll post photos soon.

Elsewhere…

Can you deal with how fabulous Pippa Middleton looks here:

What an absolutely gorgeous black tie ensemble. Love the jacket, earrings, hair, dress. It's all just so good. And her boyfriend/rumored fiance isn't bad to look at either. This makes me excited to dress up for the holidays!

Fancy Fireplaces

We have lived in our current house almost five years and have never once used our fireplace? Why? It's gas and doesn't work. It's the saddest thing. Witness, last Christmas our Netflix yule log...

So, this year, we've decided to really make a go of trying to fix the problem. And, of course, that has me thinking about redecorating.

Here's our current fireplace…

And, some dreamy fireplace inspiration…

What's Up Thursday

I can't believe it is a week until Thanksgiving. We're getting in the spirit with some fall decor. I have way too many wreaths so since we only have the one front door I have to get creative with where to put them all. I used this one on our dining room table as a centerpiece.

I am so completely in love with this look from Lucky Magazine. A pink jacket for Christmas parties is so cool and unexpected. And this one is only $128 at The Gap! I also love the way they styled everything with the jacket on the shoulders and the sparkly pieces underneath. Totally perfect.

How amazing is this gorgeous Hawaiian wedding of Tori Praver and Danny Fuller on Vogue.com. It's so lovely and everything just looks so peaceful and laid back. It makes me want to go to Hawaii.

Monogram of the Moment

Over the summer, I decided to freshen up our bedroom and lower our bed. It's kind of amazing what small changes can do.

Here's the before with our beautiful (but massive) bed:

Here is the after:

I also bought this great armoire for our TV (and most of my folded items) at On Consignment.

I got these small pillows and the headboard on One Kings Lane.

So to make everything kind of match more, I monogrammed our pillowcases with two-color monograms...

Weekend Snaps

This weekend was super duper relaxed and really nice. My husband was out of town so I was able to get some things done around the house, including starting on a crazy Christmas monogramming project I will reveal soon.

Getting bigger!

My sister and I went to Dallas and enjoyed some coffee (decaf for me!) at Forty Five Ten's T Room.

I love fall so so much, and this photo of the leaves near our house reminds me why.

I caught up on the new magazines. I am so obsessed with the Jessica Chastain Vogue cover, absolutely stunning.

I was so excited to find the seasonal Mrs. Meyer's products at Target. They have a couple of scents, but the orange clove definitely sold me.

What's Up Thursday

Is it Friday yet? This week has been a long one!

One Kings Lane had a clear furniture sale yesterday and it looks like some of it is still available. I love the acrylic trunk and this funky chair. The trunk would be an awesome coffee table or really chic toy bin for a little one.

I finally broke my resolve and shopped J.Crew's 25% off promotion. Argh. You win again, J.Crew! I bought this lovely necklace and I can't wait to wear it during the holidays.

Also, have you seen this awesome speaker on their website? Such a great gift for $12.

Triple C Amplifier Egg at J.Crew

I'll admit it, I am still obsessed with pretty much everyone from The Hills/Laguna Beach/whatever that spinoff was where Whitney had the strange boyfriend, so I was so excited to see Lauren Conrad's Paper Crown office on Domaine

It's really beautiful and I love that she left the exposed brick walls and used some masculine-looking rugs so it doesn't look so girly.

We got a new piece of artwork last week from my husband's cousin. I love the serene color scheme and I think it looks so great in our entry. It was too big to frame in the space we chose, but eventually if we move it I think it would look so nice in a silver frame.

Benji Wednesday: Bath Time

Usually I give Benji his bath so I don't get to take photos of him, but my husband did it this time. I have never seen a cuter dog (even during bath time)!

I loved this article from The Huffington Post about Kate Middleton being a living American Girl doll. I loved my Samantha doll growing up, so that must explain the obsession.

Her outfits and hair are super similar, you have to admit!

Monogram of the Moment

I can't believe Thanksgiving is only two weeks away! In honor of turkey day, here is a monogram I did for my sister in law for her holiday table.

She's using the green napkins for Thanksgiving and the both the napkins and the placemats for Christmas. I think it will go well with her china, which is similar to this pattern…

I am so ready for some turkey and dressing!

Weekend Snaps

This weekend we had a black tie event. I guess I wasn't really aware of how difficult it would be to dress for while pregnant. I used Rent the Runway, which I definitely recommend if you are 6 months or fewer prego. After that, I am at a total loss. What do you do?!?

The dresses that I originally rented were apparently returned to Rent the Runway "damaged beyond repair" so they were nice enough to let me choose something else at any price. I felt great in the dress I wore. I would definitely recommend getting some options though. I had four to choose from and this is the only one that fit!

Funny enough, my mom went to the same black tie event 30 years earlier when she was pregnant with me. Here's a photo of my mom…

Isn't she beautiful?

What's Up Thursday

It's finally cold here in Fort Worth. Hooray! We celebrated this week by making enchilada soup. Easy to make and very hearty. I especially like this version because you make your own chips!

Enchilada Soup (serves 6 or more)

5 chicken breasts
4 cloves of garlic, minced
2 small onions, chopped
2 T olive oil
6 (14.5 oz) cans chicken broth
2 (19 oz) cans mild red enchilada sauce
2 cups masa harina
2 t ground cumin
2 t chili powder
1 (10 oz) cans Rotel tomatoes (I use the spicy kind)
15 corn tortillas cut into thin strips, brushed with olive oil, sprinkled with salt and baked at 350 degrees until crisp
Avocado, monterrey jack cheese and cilantro for garnish

-Saute garlic and onion until soft
-Add shredded chicken and stir until heated
-Mix 1/2 cup masa haring with enchilada sauce in a blender and blend until smooth
-In a large pot, heat chicken broth and add 1 1/2 cups masa harina and then the enchilada sauce mixture
-Continue cooking on medium heat, then add spices and Rotel tomatoes
-Bring to a slow boil, add chicken, garlic and onion mixture and simmer for 30 minutes
-Garnish and enjoy!

In self-control news, I have still not shopped for myself at J.Crew, despite their offering of yet another sale this week. Luckily, the only thing I think is completely amazing is sold out.

Of course, there is always the J.Crew store…

And, more from the wedding of the century. I made a little video of Jacquelyn and Brian's wedding on iMovie. I had never used iMovie previously, but it's so easy and fun. I love it now!

Monogram of the Moment

I'm pretty into monogramming wedding hankies. They just look so beautiful and old fashioned. I especially love photos of them around a bouquet. Fortunately, I have a couple of friends getting married next year so the monogrammed hankie trend will continue!
