Happy Halloween!

In honor of this spooky day, I'm going glitzy with a few gold pumpkins. I've been really loving seeing  these floating around on Pinterest, they are so different, especially the push pin pumpkin. Isn't that cool? I don't know if I have the patience for the actual crafting of such a gourd, but it's cool.

My Halloween costume is pretty nonexistent this year, but here's what I wish I was going as...

How awesome is Nicole Richie? Troop Beverly Hills, forever. I think this is my favorite ensemble costume of all time. That, or going as the cast of one of the Housewives shows. That would be awesome too.

Happy Halloween!

Dining Room Redo

When we first moved in our house I tried to make it very "boyish" and traditional, which I think is beautiful (or should I say handsome). But now that we've been here a few years I decided it's time to lighten things up a little bit. Here's Benji showing you the dining room before...

Here is our dining room after.

You may remember I posted the chairs before here. Well, we finally got around to recovering them. I'm so excited about the fabric we chose!

Weekend Snaps

So last week was fun but a little crazy. I tagged along with my husband to Las Vegas, which was fun. One (of many) of my white trash shames is that I seriously love Vegas....for 12-24 hours. After that I'm pretty much over it. I took a couple of snaps of the prettier aspects of our trip...

This weekend we stayed close to home, where our insane neighbors have really ratcheted up the weirdo factor of the block with this All Hallow's Eve display. You can't see from this fuzzy iPhone photo, but they have faux corpses hanging from the trees and...wait for it....sound effects.

At our house, we're keeping Halloween cute. As promised, here are our three pups in costume...

Luke as a Kentucky Derby horse

Elsie as a chicken

This is after a couple of photo attempts. She was super over it.

Weekend Snaps

How was your weekend?

Benji's was great, even though TCU sadly did not beat Texas Tech. Mine was pretty nice too! We went to the game with our friends Jacquelyn and Brian and had a great time watching the game in the new stadium.

I got a group photo of all of our dogs. This is not it, but I thought it was a telling outtake. The real deal is so cute it just might go on our Christmas card.

I made this smoothie. Usually my fruit smoothies always turn out kind of "meh," but this one was very tasty. I used almond milk instead of yogurt.

We finally got around to watching Bernie. It was hysterical. Especially the explanation of the map of Texas.

If you haven't seen it, it's worth watching. It's very funny. I love a well-done dark comedy and this definitely is.

I also started a new job. I'm so excited to write more about it later. Even though I know it will be a lot of work I'm really excited about it. And, you know, sometimes you just have to hang on and say go.

Happy Monday! Have a great week!

What's Up Thursday

Hiiiii!!!! I mean, what is the point of having a blog if you don't post at least one ridiculous real-life photo of yourself, am I right?

C'est moi avec foils. I had a very lengthy salon day yesterday, and now my two-inch roots are no more. So that's pretty exciting. I waited so long between highlights that I was seriously considering doing an all-natural ombre like L.C. below.

Until it started looking like Britney circa 2007...

I'm just kidding, I don't have a bad weave, I swear.

What a rough couple of weeks, y'all. First Courtney and Ben's relationship bites the dust and now Emily and Jef are doneski. I'm feeling pretty down on the whole Bachelor franchise right now.

However, it does look like Arie and Jef are bonding over their shared rejection by Emily, so maybe that's a silver lining. I am counting down the days until Sean is the Bachelor, maybe he'll break the curse. It could happen! At any rate, he's not bad to look at.

It's feeling more like fall around here. Maybe especially because I picked up some cider. This is the cider of my childhood, we always had this around in the cooler months and it's so good.

I'm super excited to make Nutella and Sea Salt Fudge soon. Nutella pretty much rocks my world and I like anything with "Salt" in the description.

Do you all know about Marisa Webb? If no, you totally should, she's my new girl crush. How awesome and cool is she?

Totally need those black ankle strap shoes in the last pic. She's amazing and I love her new collection.

I'm really looking forward to the December 1 launch of the Neiman Marcus and Council of Fashion Designers of America collaboration for Target. There is some really cute stuff to be had.

Weekend Snaps

How was your weekend?

I watched Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. I hadn't seen it since it was in theaters years ago and it was just as fabulously ridiculous as I recalled. Especially this scene, perhaps the greatest snippet of pastel indulgence ever put to film...

I'm really loving Kirsten Dunst lately and I honestly never thought I would say that after that horrible movie she did with Orlando Bloom where she plays a flight attendant. what was that movie called? I blame my new love on the movie Bachelorette. Have you seen it? It's so hilarious...and kind if of sick and twisted.

I treated myself to some beauty products over the weekend. It started out fairly harmlessly, a year or so ago I bought the greatest Stila lip glaze set ever on Gilt. For serious, I used five of the eight glosses in the pack that was super duper discounted. It's only now that they are dwindling, so I went to Ulta to restock.

Ulta only carried a few shades, but all of the colors are on Zappos. My favorites are grapefruit, seashell, apricot, blush and guava. They're seriously great. And, curse you, Ulta for that tiny display near the checkout with all of the seemingly inexpensive sample-size things. Not cool.

We went to the The Modern for lunch and saw this great piece by KAWS called COMPANION (PASSING THROUGH). My sister saw it when it was in New York, isn't it cool?

I volunteered this weekend and had such a blast taking some very sweet kids around the Zoo. Below are giraffes, a swan, some koi fish and a duck. Can you spot them all?

I got some movies via Netflix. Is this like so behind the times? I have instant, but it always seems like all of the best movies have to be ordered via mail. Anyway, I love their Halloween-themed envelopes.

I bought some flowers for around the house. I'm really loving light purple and blue together recently, isn't it pretty?

Have an amaze week!

What's Up Thursday

This Thursday....

I'm totally obsessed with this necklace.

Such a darling gift for anyone (including me) and it comes in so many colors, which is kind of a problem. I want like five of them. Jamie from I Suwannee has it in tortoise, which is a cool neutral, but I also like yellow (duh) and blue and pink. Any suggestions?

I found these cute chevron pumpkins on Pinterest and I want to recreate them soon. It seems straightforward enough. I'll report back. I'm also working on a new painting for our bedroom. I use the word "painting" extremely loosely as I acknowledge I am no artist, but it's going okay so far so I'll let you judge the final product.

I am newly obsessed with everything Alfred Hitchcock and cannot wait for the two films being made about his life. The first, The Girl, will air on HBO October 20th.  Sienna Miller stars as Tippi Hedren and Toby Jones is an uber-creepy Alfred Hitchcock. Hitchcock was famously obsessed with Hedren, submitting her to long grueling hours and sexual harassment on The Birds and Marnie, the two films she made with him. Tippi Hedren always seemed like she was smarter than she let on in these films and I'll be curious to see if Miller can channel her particular brand of blonde ice princess.

The second movie, Hitchcock, centers around the filming of the controversial movie Psycho. I cannot wait to see Anthony Hopkins as Alfred Hitchcock and Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh. Perfect casting, seriously. I feel like this has to be Oscar material, right?

And speaking of Hitchcock, one of my favorite of his leading ladies, Grace Kelly, is the topic of a new film set for release in 2014. Nicole Kidman plays Her Serene Highness Princess Grace of Monaco, and I'll be honest, I'm skeptical. Here's a first look from People.com.

Nicole Kidman is beautiful, of course, but Grace Kelly was everything. I wish Mrs. Urban well and I can't wait to see the movie and that's all I'll say.

And....

Happy Birthday to my sweet little nugget Elsie! She is 2 years old today and I can't believe it! Here's her baby pic. She is the black and white baby closest to her mom's head.

Here she is today...

Here's what she got for her birthday. It's the loudest toy ever, but she's still so cute.

That's kind of it. C'mon Friday!
