When I was a youngster and completely obsessed with decorative bell bottoms during the late '90s my mom offered me a sage piece of advice. She told me that if you wear something trendy once in your lifetime the next time it comes into vogue you won't think it's so cool. This, for the most part has proved quite true for me.
To wit, the recent resurgence of the side pony, illustrated by the lovely Stacy Keibler ...
I however, already experimented with this look, which by the way is perfect for travel as your pony will not hit the headrest on planes and cars. My pony tended to look a little like Stephanie Tanner's...
So no nouveau side pony for moi. Maybe it's just that I don't know how to do it without a bright yellow scrunchie, I don't know.
Another trend that was big in my youth was colored nail polish, specifically the color green. And specifically, Hard Candy nail polish. A Google search confirms that the company is still around although it's now called "Hard Candy Just Nails" (because they are known for so many other things?). At any rate, Hard Candy was the only nail polish to wear at my school. It also came with a ring, which was awesome, but you could never wear it in public.
Thus, I have been slow to embrace the color green on my nails. I've decided that's one color that you probably don't want on your hair, nails or skin.
But, what's this?
The flatform? I kind of love it! The above are from Madewell and I think they're pretty cool. I also like these guys...
available at net-a-porter.
Oddly enough, these too remind me of my youth. Do you remember a time in about 1999 when a kind of flatform flip flop was pretty cool? It had a black top and a woven straw sole. The closest thing on ebay is this, but it's not quite it. They were something you might see in the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You...
The fantastic Julia Stiles is wearing them in the movie poster above. Anyway, they were awesome. I think I wore out the straw on mine. I'm kind of thinking I need to watch this movie again soon, if only for more great lines like, "There's a difference between like and love, I mean I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack."
