Crime of Fashion

Just read this interesting New York Times article on the Yves Saint Laurent vs. Christian Louboutin dispute. YSL's 2011 Cruise collection featured several pairs of shoes that had red soles to match the red tops of their shoes. Christian Louboutin sued claiming copyright infringement. Christian Louboutin apparently actually does have a copyright for the red sole, but it didn't help him out here. The article suggests (rather brazenly) that this ruling could have a future effect on other imitations and that the red sole "may one day be showing up on shoes sold at  Payless."

What do you think? Should Christian Louboutin have won this case? And more importantly, could you spot a bad Louboutin fake?

Fall Fashion Preview

Fall is absolutely my favorite time of year, which I guess is why around this time I start thinking about what new items I might want to incorporate into my fall wardrobe. How can you not with the plethora of e-mails touting fall fashion despite triple-digit temperatures? I also start planning my Halloween costume...but that's a story for another time. For organizational purposes herewith are my top ten "fall favorites."

1. Camel
Yay hooray! Camel is such a beautiful color and though I am awfully fond of black, it's nice to have a less harsh neutral in the rotation.

2. Blouses
Finally! A return to civility. I think the blouse is an oft overlooked basic really great for work, or for play. I see this one from Marc Jacobs worn with black skinny jeans (or leggings) and some beautiful grey over-the-knee boots, which we will get to in a moment.

Available at Net-A-Porter.

3. Red
Bright red is definitely in, but I think the freshest looking red is a deep Cabernet color. Of course, I love red in any incarnation and am especially fond of this Brian Reyes dress.

Available at Shopbop.

4. Over-the-knee boots
I was super skeptical about these last season having seen Pretty Woman a number of times, but I kind of dig them now. In a dream world, how about these from Christian Louboutin? I think the key to wearing these is to never wear them with a dress. Always pants, or at the very least opaque tights underneath!

Available at Bluefly.

5. Lace
Can I just tell you how freakishly excited I am about this? I love me some lace, especially when used as an accessory accent, it adds a kind of sophisticated elegance to a simple outfit.

6. Velvet
Trust me on this. I'm not entirely sold on the whole velvet pants idea. But I love a rich velvet bolero or clutch. And I kind of think a really slim evening gown in black velvet would be amazing. Of course I couldn't find such a thing, but trust me, it would be fabulous.

7. Animal print extras
I really think it can't be fall without some kind of animal print. I love small animal print extras like this great Rebecca Minkoff clutch. Available at Shopbop. J. Crew also has a great leopard belt I just love.

8. Feathers
So obsessed with these...

Available at Neiman Marcus.

9. Long skirts
They say that when the economy is in the tank, hemlines tend to fall. So we knew this was coming. What I love about floor length skirts is that they can be completely casual like so...

...perfect with a plain white t-shirt. Or, black-tie ready, as the stunning Carolina Herrera illustrates below.

10. Pale blue
I'll admit, this is not my color. I tend to look snowman-esque in pale shades, but I almost think I could pull it off if worn with a darker color such as the Carolina Herrera example below. It's so beautiful. And while we're talking about CH, her entire fall collection really blew me away, such rich textures and wearable pieces. Love!

What are your fall fashion favorites?

Wedding Season

One of my dear friends is getting married this week, so in honor of her I am devoting today's post to weddings! Love you, J!

I adore weddings and really events in general. And I love getting dressed up, but with so many weddings in the summer it's easy to have a sinking feeling while trying to get dressed for yet another wedding (sometimes an entire wedding weekend!) and look different than you did at the last 10. Here are some things to look for when buying wedding wares.

The Dress

I'm a huge fan of white, cream and ivory dresses, which are incidentally a huge "no no" at a wedding--especially at the wedding of someone who you might call a peer or acquantaince and especially if you are under 50. The silhouette of this Lela Rose dress is so amazing, here is a dress that is similar, but in a different color...

This Shoshanna dress fits the bill. Both dresses are available at Shopbop.

I also love these dress options from Saks...

Chloe & Reese...I kind of think this one would look even more amazing with a fabulous belt.

Diane von Furstenberg

Mark & James

And, sigh, Oscar de la Renta. My personal fave...

And these, which I couldn't hijack from Neiman Marcus and their amazing Cusp.

I would also reccomend investing in a couple of fabulous cardis or wraps to change the look of the dresses you already have.

The Clutch

Now that you have the dress, accessories are crucial. Lauren Merkin makes classic and inexpensive clutches. I am also a huge fan of Kotur.

Lauren Merkin's classic bags. Available at Neiman Marcus.

And offerings from Kotur available at Kotur's Web site.

The Shoes

Then, you need some amazing shoes that you will feel great in and that go with anything. I personally always choose gold over silver. How about these stunners?

Available at Barneys. If these don't make you feel fabulous nothing will.

I also like Jimmy Choo...

A fancy nude sandal always looks great as well...

To top it off I love jewelry. I love at least one big, fun piece of jewelry and am currently obsessed with these Kenneth Jay Lane earrings...

They go with anything!!! And they are clip-on not post so you don't have to worry about them hurting your ears to terribly.

So that is my primer on wedding attire. Now you can focus on wishing the couple a life of wedded bliss and not worry about what you are wearing!

Color Me Pink

My favorite color is yellow. Hence, the name of this blog. But, a very close second belongs to the color pink. Lucky for me, and all you other pink lovers out there, pink was a huge color for spring

...and it looks like the shade is sticking around for fall. Or, at least pre fall. Meet my new shoe crush

Christian Louboutin rose pumps...

Apologies for the tiny pic. Available at Neiman Marcus.

Which is definitely a good thing, considering the majority of my spring purchases currently look like this...

No, those are not my hand-tooled boots at left. I share a closet with a boy now, which makes things interesting and mostly fun.
